So somebody wrote me East of Eden fic for Yuletide and it is wonderful. It's set after the story and features Lee and Sam basically Monday Morning Quarterbacking the ending of the book and I am so fucking happy to see Lee and Sam together again and I love the conversation they have so much.

I'm also pleased with the reception of my story. I was nervous that the way I interact with the fandom is different from how my recipient interacts with the fandom, but they seem happy with what I wrote for them, so all is good.

There is so much good fiction in the Yuletide archive and I am having a ball going through it. Gentlemen of the Road fic! Gordon Korman Fic! If on a Winter's Night a Traveler Fic! I'm going through the "Thunder Road" fic as we speak.

Yay Mexico City! [dec. 22-a, 2009|06:39 pm]

So it seems that Mexico City has legalized same-sex marriage.

From the Guardian article linked above:

The bill called for a change of the definition of marriage in the city's civil code.It is currently defined as the union of a man and a woman, and the new definition will be "the free uniting of two people".
The change will enable same-sex couples to adopt, apply for bank loans, inherit wealth and be included in the insurance policies of their spouse – rights they were denied under the civil unions allowed in the city.
"We are so happy," said Temistocles Villanueva, a 23-year-old film student, who celebrated the new legislation by kissing his boyfriend outside the city assembly.
"For centuries, unjust laws banned marriage between blacks and whites or Indians and Europeans," Victor Romo, of the Democratic Revolution party, said. "Today, all barriers have disappeared."
However, Armando Martinez, the president of the College of Catholic Attorneys, said politicians in the city had "given Mexicans the most bitter Christmas".

The most bitter Christmas, eh Armando?

Well, I have a message from you, from the Heavy Weapons Guy:

"Heh. Cry some more."

I'm really losing interest in Schlock Mercenary and XKCD. There's no glee when I open up their stuff anymore.

This is sad, because for the longest time, Schlock's been my go-to webcomic, and it's given me the most enjoyable comics storyline I've ever read, bar none. (It starts here if you're curious.) Yes, I said bar none. That storyline which Taylor launched in October 2004 trumps Sandman for me, and The Dark Knight Returns, and all those others. (Well, maybe not V for Vendetta. So bar one, I guess.) I don't say that it should do the same for you; my tastes are idiosyncratic. The point is, it's gone from a comic which I've loved to pieces...to something which I don't really care about any more.

Meh, so it goes.
